On 12 September 2016, the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia launched its Comprehensive National Strategy on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, announced by H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The strategy showcases the latest development in Hedayah’s work with Somalia, which consisted of a number of workshops and a detailed drafting process that involved consultation across many different sectors in Somalia.
Kenya’s National Strategy on CVE
On 7 September 2016, the Government of Kenya launched its National Strategy for Countering Violent Extremism, which was announced by H.E. President Kenyatta. The strategy involves all parts of government, communities, civil society, private sectors and international partners to prevent and counter radicalization.
Hedayah was able to support the development of the National Strategy by facilitating a four-day workshop for senior officials from different Government agencies. This allowed for a refocusing of the draft strategy and resulted in Senior Kenyan Officials publishing ‘the Belfast Communique’ on CVE.
